The Old Dominion University Research Foundation (ODURF) has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to carry out research in Fourier transform spectroscopy of molecules and aerosols in the University’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The position entails the recording and analysis of spectra with high resolution Fourier transform spectrometers in the laboratory and from orbit. These spectra require interpretation to obtain properties. Qualified candidates must have experience in the analysis of high resolution molecular spectra and a PhD in Chemistry or Physics.
Job Responsibilities:- Record and interpret molecular spectra obtained with a high resolution infrared Fourier transform spectrometer
- Analyze ACE satellite observations of aerosols and molecules
- Write scientific papers and reports
- Train graduate students
- Attend scientific meetings and group meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Education and/or training:
PhD in chemistry or physics
Level and type of experience:
Experience in recording and analysis of molecular spectra
Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities?
Operation of molecular sources and Fourier transform spectrometers
Other: Computer skills with Matlab or a similar program
