Description:

The Department of Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a full-time position as Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor of Engineering or Computer Science. This position involves instructing undergraduates in engineering and computer science courses, along with maintaining an active research program and participating in undergraduate mentoring and advising.  Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, and the potential to develop an externally funded research program. Candidates must have a strong record of scholarly and professional achievements.

 The Department of Engineering and Computer Science is composed of two full-time faculty, two part-time faculty, various adjunct faculty, and a staff member. There are over 80 students seeking degrees in three majors: Engineering, Computer Science, and Computer Information Systems.

Teaching load of 24 units per academic year is required. The faculty will be working under the general direction of the Chair of the Department Engineering and Computer Science, as well as working very closely with the Department Chair of Department of Math, Physics, and Statistics. Position is subject to final funding.

 

Desired Specializations in One or More of the Following Areas (others considered):  cybersecurity, robotics, machine learning, bio-informatics, large-scale networking, game design, human-machine interface, green energy, advanced semiconductor, industrial automation, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and teach CS/CIS/ENGR courses up to 12 units per semester
  • Participate in mentoring and academic advising of undergraduate students
  • Participate in department and university affairs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair
  • Integrate Christian faith in all aspects of instruction.

 

Level: Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor

Qualifications:  

  • An earned Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering
  • A commitment to teaching excellence in undergraduate programs
  • Desire to be available on campus to mentor undergraduate students in their course work and research
  • A commitment to teaching excellence in an undergraduate, liberal arts program.
  • A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University (Faculty members are required to sign a “Statement of Faith,” available at http://www.apu.edu/about/believe and to adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook.)

 

Experience: 

  • Evidence of teaching excellence is desired
  • Prior experience mentoring undergraduate students in technical projects and research desired
  • Prior experience in socially-responsible and meaningful projects desired
  • Prior experience in integration of faith with the discipline is preferred

 

Workload:  Full-time faculty position teaching 24 units per academic year; advising and other departmental responsibilities determined by the Department Chair. This is a one year, non-renewable position.

 

Hire Date:  Open until filled (anticipated start date, August 16, 2024).

Compensation:

$66,560 to $125,460 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.

 

Compensation will be based on experience, rank, and qualifications.
